King Luther's Day

Michael has been very excited about "King Luther's Day" or "Saint Martin's Day," as calls tomorrow's holiday. I've been amused by how he Europeanizes/Catholicizes the American holiday, and haven't had the heart to correct him because the alternative titles seem appropriate in their own way.

First he requested Rice Krispie treats for the holiday (after all, Saint Martin's Day in Germany calls for sweet yeast bread in the shape of geese), but when Patrick said he wanted brownies for the holiday, Michael had the good idea of making the Rice Krispie treats and brownies in the shape of hands—one brown, one white—holding one another. That seems like a very appropriate treat and tradition for Martin Luther King Day! Let's see how they turns out.
