Anne Lamott at Kepler's

Never ceases to amaze me who is reading at Kepler's. Tonight Anne Lamott read from her latest novel "Imperfect Birds." I'd just read her "Bird by Bird" for the second or third time when we were in Germany for Christmas.

She was really funny, a great speaker. Her new book is the third of a trilogy, primarily about a mother-daughter relationship, but in this book beautiful, smart Rosie is addicted to drugs, a subject Lamott seemed to know a lot about.

Part of me thought that because the book has a lot about the teen culture in Marin County, CA, it would be good to read even though I am not much of a novel person (and already I am currently reading Mary Shelley's "Frankenstein" with Nick, Lois Duncan's "I Know What You Did Last Summer" with Patrick, and "Hank the Cowdog #4" with Michael), but part of me thought, I don't need to know about the devastating effects of the teen drug culture right now! Listening to some of the stories just made me thankful I have a good relationship with the boys and that they are not involved with brain-damaging leisure activities!

I feel so lucky to have been able to see so many great authors this year.
