Writers' Retreat February 21-24

Still mourning the loss of my camera. At the writers' retreat, led by salon.com columnist Cary Tennis, I took a few photos with my iPhone, but they didn't really turn out, and then when I was syncing the phone with the computer, iPhoto crashed and I lost the remaining ones. So no photos of Bob, Cary, Leslie, and Michael.

The getaway was held at the Marconi Conference Center across from the Point Reyes peninsula, right on the San Andreas Fault. The water all around us was beautiful, even though it was rainy and cold for the most part.

Great hearing everyone's stories. We sat in a circle and did freewriting assignments, then read our pieces aloud. Appreciated the Pat Schneider method of just reflecting what parts of each person's writing we liked or stood out for us. The atmosphere was very positive and warm. I was amazed by everyone's imagination and felt it gave me the license to be creative as well.

Loved the evening poetry and short story readings. Never much liked poetry, but it was inspiring, so maybe I'll get a book and read a poem a day to the boys; wonder how that'll go over.
